Originating from the strike in Chicago on May 1st, 1886, which main demand was an 8-hour work day. This event led to protests in Haymarket Square, where a bomb exploded and clashes between workers and policemen happened, turning it into a symbol of sacrifice and fighting for labor rights.

To memorize and commemorate this event, International Workers’ Day, May 1st, has become a holiday in many countries in order to honor labor and build labor solidarity around the world. At the same time, this is also a holiday for the working class and workers, a day of uniting the working class and oppressed people in the world in the fight for peace, national independence, democracy, and social progress.

In such a meaningful month like May, Voice Of Us wants to spread multi-dimensional, positive perspectives as well as stories about workers all around the world.
